2021 was a year full of excellent albums across all genres and styles. Tyler, the Creator released his very different Call Me If You Get Lost. Olivia Rodrigo hit the charts with her debut album Sour. And let’s not forget Adele continued on her reign over the Pop world by releasing her fourth album, 30.
We are now in 2022, and new music is right around the corner. Here are our most anticipated albums of 2022!
Charli XCX: Crash
Charli XCX is in her new era, as she is with every new album she drops. She released the lead single, “Good Ones” for her upcoming album Crash, where she was covered in black latex and was dancing on a coffin. This could signify the end of her last era and her transformation into a darker and more sinister one.
The album is set to feature several different producers and collaborators. The lead single showcased influences from the 80s, which means fans of Charli are in for another synth-pop banger! Producers like Oneohtrix Point Never, who recently worked on the amazing Dawn FM by the Weeknd, are set to produce many tracks on the album.
100 gecs: 10000 gecs
100 gecs, the electronic music duo is increasing the number of gecs (whatever gecs are?) with their upcoming album 10000 gecs. Laura Les and Dylan Brady make up the hyper pop electronic music duo, and they don’t seem in any hurry to leave behind the chaotic sounds they use in their music. The pair was on a break and released separate albums and singles. Les released her first solo single called “Haunted” and Dylan released the debut album of his band, Cake Pop 2, last year.
Not much is known about the upcoming album except that the album might have a more pop-punk influence. Sources have also said the new album will sound a lot more ‘mainstream’ and mature than their older works. We might even hear Les sing without their trademark autotune voice.
Brockhampton has gained kind of a cult following their time as a boyband. This anticipated album is set to be the group’s last album together. According to Kevin Abstract, “Everyone wants to do other stuff. It’s gonna be cool.”
The album was set to be released in late 2022 but was pushed back as the group was trying out new members. As always with Brockhampton, not much is known about the album, but fans are awaiting another genre-bending cult classic.
2017 was the year of SZA. Her album, CTRL, was everywhere you went. Fans are now waiting impatiently for SZA to finally release a new album. Rumors about delays due to issues with her label, TDE, circulated through social media.
SZA’s recent activities, like featuring on Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More” and Kali Uchis’ “Fue mejor” have fans excited as they see this as a sign of an upcoming album release. Billboard reported that the upcoming album is set to release midway through 2022.
Kendrick Lamar: TBA
It has been five long years since Kendrick Lamar’s last release and global hit, DAMN. In August of last year, Kendrick finally broke his silence about his upcoming album through a tweet. It read, “As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years.”
Fans globally are impatiently waiting for Kendrick to drop another classic following his fantastic run of releasing classic after classic since his major-label debut album, Good Kid, MAAD City. Kendrick has remained very cryptic about what to expect, as with every other album.
His recent features with Baby Keem on his album The Melodic Blue and the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime performance have everyone excited and waiting for Kendrick to grace us with more music. With how well all his albums have done, we expect nothing less than an instant classic from Kendrick.
